Copyright & licensing
Ownership of the images, what your purchase allows, and how we protect our work.
1. Ownership
Every photograph on this site is the original creative work of O'Gara Photography and is protected by copyright under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. We remain the copyright owner at all times, including after you buy a download.
2. Your licence when you buy
When you purchase a photograph you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to:
- keep and back up the file for your own records;
- print it for personal, non-commercial use;
- share it on personal social media, ideally crediting O'Gara Photography.
3. What the licence does not allow
Unless you have our written permission, you may not:
- use the photograph commercially, for advertising, or to imply endorsement;
- resell, sublicense, or redistribute the file to others;
- claim authorship, or remove or alter copyright and credit information;
- use the image to train machine-learning or generative-AI models.
4. Honesty about image protection
We want to be straight with you about how preview images are protected, because no online protection is absolute:
- Visible watermarks on preview images deter casual copying and make the source obvious. They are a deterrent, not a guarantee.
- Watermarks can be removed by a determined person, including with modern AI tools. We do not pretend otherwise.
- Right-click blocking and similar tricks only stop casual saving; they are courtesy measures, not security.
- Full-resolution originals are never shown publicly. They live on private storage and are only ever released through your personal, expiring download links after purchase.
- Traceability. Downloads are logged, and originals retain metadata that can help establish provenance if a dispute arises. Where it matters, forensic watermarking and reverse-image searching can be used to identify misuse.
In short: buying the photo is the easy, honest and affordable way to get a clean, high-resolution file you are actually licensed to use.
